The prejudice against German music after WWI resulted in an emphasis on the latest French and Russian music of the time, which moulded the language of Jacobís generation. These influences can be heard in Jacobís symphonies, from the regular melodic patterns of Poulenc to the rhythmic eccentricities of early Stravinsky, together with the sonorous tuttis of Elgar, still in Jacobís youth the star in the English firmament.
